San Marcos HikeRidgeline Trailhead to Antennas

Strenuous: This moderately difficult, 7.6-mile hike will explore the Cerro de Las Posas ridgeline trails with overlooks of Lake San Marcos, the Valley of Discovery and the Pacific Ocean. There will be steep climbs with an elevation gain of 1390 feet.

Saturday, April 6 • Sign-in starts at 8:30 a.m. with hike beginning at 9 a.m. • Free

Meeting location: Ridgeline Trailhead Parking Lot (across from Double Peak Elementary School), 102 San Elijo Road, San Marcos 92078.

April Pools Day – Dive into a day of water safety awareness at our April Pools Day event! Join us for an educational and fun-filled day focused on keeping you and your loved ones safe around water.

Pop-Up Rec

Frog Handprints – Springtime is TOAD-ally cool! Join us in the park to create frogs using paint and your hands. You bring the creativity, and we’ll bring all the supplies you need! While supplies last.

Family Night Craft Pick-Up– Wednesday, April 17 • $5 – Community Center • 3 Civic Center Drive

Earth Day Seed Bombs Tear up pieces of colored paper, soak them in water, and mold them together with flower seeds to create seed bombs in honor of Earth Day. Parent supervision is required.

Family Night activities bring families together. Crafts/activities are intended for children ages three to ten. Each On-The-Go kit contains one craft or activity. Adjust quantity when registering for each child participating. REGISTER HERE

All events are free for you and your family to come together to swim, and learn about Water Safety!

April Pools Day: Saturday, April 6

Water Safety Day: Saturday, May 18

World’s Largest Swim Lesson: Thursday, June 20

Lifeguard Certification Class – This course is an American Red Cross blended learning course – register at least 3 days before as a portion must be completed online prior to the first in-person day of class. A swim competency evaluation must be completed as a pre-requisite including: a 10-pound brick retrieval from a 12-foot depth, a 300-meter swim using free-style or breast stroke with face in or out of water, and a two-minute deep-water tread without use of arms. At least 5 people must be registered for the class to be held.

Location: Woodland Park Pool

Days: April 13 & 14

Time: 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

Fee: $250 per course (Online pre registration is required.) Register for Lifeguard Cert.

Water Safety Instructor Certification

Spots are still available for our upcoming Water Safety instructor Class. This course is an American Red Cross blended learning course – register at least 3 days before as a portion must be completed online prior to the first in-person day of class. At least 5 people must be registered for the class to be held.

Location: Las Posas Park Pool

Days: April 20 & 21

Time: 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

Fee: $250 per course (Online pre registration is required.) REGISTER FOR WSI Class

Recreation Scholarships Available!

The Friends of San Marcos Parks & Recreation have donated $10,000 this for recreation scholarships! These scholarships are available through the City of San Marcos Parks & Recreation and are contingent upon meeting certain financial eligibility requirements. Park Shelter Reservations Available

The City has 22 designated reservable park picnic shelters at 13 different City parks that may be reserved to host your next celebration. A reservation must be made for groups of 25 people or more and groups who wish to have a inflatable or pony/petting zoo. Groups under 25 people can still make a reservation or choose to use the park on a first come first serve basis.

Reservable park picnic shelters can be reserved online a minimum of 8 days in advance and at the Parks and Recreation office 4 days in advance of your desired date. Reservations are paid in full at the time of booking.
