San Marcos HikeMule Hill Historical Trail

Easy: Start out from the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead to enjoy a scenic 6.4-mile hike on the Mule Hill Historical Trail towards Raptor Ridge. There is little to no elevation gain.

Saturday, March 2 • Sign-in starts at 8:30 a.m. with hike beginning at 9 a.m. • Free

Star Walk XXVIII

Enjoy a night under the stars and learn basic astronomy concepts at a beginner’s level. Locate and understand featured celestial/astronomical events. Locate and identify common Constellations and Asterisms.

What is a New Moon and where is it? Where are the Planets; How do I watch the morning show? The Orion complex and bright Hexagon of Winter/Spring Constellations; What is an Equinox and when is the Eclipse happening?

Recommended Equipment:- LED flashlight with red filter or red lens cover, Binoculars, Warm clothes, Blanket and/or ground cloth.

Sneaky Leprechaun Traps

Craft a trap using gold coins, shamrocks, and rainbows to lure them in. If you are lucky enough to catch one, please be kind and let them go after you say hello!

Family Night activities bring families together. Crafts/activities are intended for children ages three to ten. Each On-The-Go kit contains one craft or activity. Adjust quantity when registering for each child participating. Register Here

World’s Largest Swim Lesson: Thursday, June 20

Lifeguard Certification Class This course is an American Red Cross blended learning course – register at least 3 days before as a portion must be completed online prior to the first in-person day of class. A swim competency evaluation must be completed as a pre-requisite including: a 10-pound brick retrieval from a 12-foot depth, a 300-meter swim using free-style or breast stroke with face in or out of water, and a two-minute deep-water tread without use of arms. At least 5 people must be registered for the class to be held.

Location: Woodland Park Pool

Days: March 16 & 17 | April 13 & 14Time: 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Fee: $250 per course (Online pre registration is required.) Register for Lifeguard Cert.

Water Safety Instructor Certification – Spots are still available for our upcoming Water Safety instructor Class. Location: Las Posas Park Pool

Days: March 2 & 3 | April 20 & 21 – Time: 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

Splash Pass Membership – Purchase a Splash Pass membership for year-round access, or pay a drop-in fee for an intense or easy workout. Pool is heated and outdoors. Please bring your own equipment. Purchase Splash Pass.

Recreation Scholarships Available!

The Friends of San Marcos Parks & Recreation have donated $10,000 this for recreation scholarships! These scholarships are available through the City of San Marcos Parks & Recreation and are contingent upon meeting certain financial eligibility requirements. Park Shelter Reservations Available

The City has 22 designated reservable park picnic shelters at 13 different City parks that may be reserved to host your next celebration. A reservation must be made for groups of 25 people or more and groups who wish to have a inflatable or pony/petting zoo. Groups under 25 people can still make a reservation or choose to use the park on a first come first serve basis.

Reservable park picnic shelters can be reserved online a minimum of 8 days in advance and at the Parks and Recreation office 4 days in advance of your desired date. Reservations are paid in full at the time of booking.   For more information, please visit www.san-marcos.net/reserveapark or call the office at 760-744-9000.
