First Friday Art Walk May 6, Artist Alley Celebrate the thriving arts and culture scene in the heart of Downtown Oceanside at the First Friday Oceanside Art Walk. From 5-9 p.m. on Friday, enjoy arts, jewelry, pottery, crafts, live music and more from local artists in Artist Alley. This free, family-friendly event is produced by the Oceanside Friends of the Arts in support of arts-related activities in Oceanside. Music at the Museum May 6, Oceanside Museum of Art Don’t miss the first Music at the Museum of 2022. In celebration of the street photography exhibition “Oceanside Unfiltered,” the evening will feature performances by Oside’s own, including music from Dezzy Hollow and street dance by Wild7s Freestyle Krew, plus old school and funk music sets by DJ Grande. Throughout the event, Members Only Car Club will be holding it down with lowriders parked outside. Enjoy food from Chef Daniel Pundik’s mobile wood-fired pizza oven and a cash bar. Explore the exhibitions for free starting at 5 p.m. Friday.
“Newsies” May 6-8, Star Theatre Don’t miss the final weekend of the Star Theatre Coast Kids production of Disney’s “Newsies.” This high-energy, Tony Award-winning musical inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899 soars with rousing dance numbers and memorable songs. When New York publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst try to increase their profits by taking advantage of hard-working kids, the charismatic Jack Kelly steps up to lead a band of young “newsies” to strike for what’s right. Panel Discussion: Exploring Safe Space May 7, Oceanside Museum of Art Join Oceanside Museum of Art for a free panel discussion with exhibiting artist Shinpei Takeda, creator of “Limit of Your Safe Space,” which opens Friday at the museum. Get an artist-led gallery tour at 6 p.m. Saturday followed by a discussion at 6:30 p.m. exploring diverse points of view on “safe space” within the context of museums. Interact with the new exhibition by scanning QR codes to find out what the concept of “safe space” looks like for those impacted by traumatic experiences. Registration required.
Art & Wine May 7, MOPA Lounge Enjoy an art exhibition by local artist Anita Friedrich at the Downtown Oceanside upscale cafe and wine bar at 7 p.m. Saturday. 2nd Annual Amateur Photography Contest Through May 15, Oceanside The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library is accepting entries for its 2nd Annual Amateur Photography Contest. Downtown History Walks May 14, Downtown Oceanside For over 20 years the Oceanside Historical Society has hosted Downtown History Walks. History Walks are held the 2nd Saturday of each month beginning in April and run through September. Walks start at 9 a.m. in front of the Oceanside Public Library (look for the plaque of Andrew Jackson Myers). Walks are moderately paced and take about two hours. Downtown walks are free (donations are always welcome) and open to everyone. Or take a self-guided tour at the link below.
“Heroes Live Here” Exhibit Opening and Book Signing May 14, Oceanside Public Library Join award-winning multimedia journalist and Marine Corps veteran Amy Forsythe for a free discussion of her book, “Heroes Live Here: A Tribute to Camp Pendleton Marines Since 9/11.” Forsythe, who appeared at Author’s Night at the Sunset Market in January, will talk about the book’s inception and the war memorials and tributes located within the base. This event will be held in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms next Saturday at 2 p.m.

Named after its signature creation — a sweet hand pie that is filled with seasonal fruits — HIGH-pie is the second Downtown restaurant by F10 Creative, which opened High/Low at Mission Pacific Hotel last year.
