Mardi Gras Night at the Sunset Market

Jan. 19, Sunset Market

From 5-9 p.m. next Thursday on Pier View Way west of Coast Highway, we’ll be kicking off the first-ever O’side Mardi Gras celebration. At Mardi Gras Night at the Sunset Market, enjoy live Zydeco and blues music by the Bayou Brothers on the Main Stage, festive Mardi Gras giveaways and activities, and vendor specials at decorated booths. Starting at 5 p.m., stop by the Informational Event Booth in Downtown Lot 35 near the Main Stage to receive free Mardi Gras beads (one per guest while supplies last) and O’side Mardi Gras event info. The first 100 booth visitors will also receive a free Mardi Gras mask! In addition, Oside Handmade will be offering a mask making activity in the Dorothy’s Military Shop and Laundry lot. O’side Mardi Gras

We’re bringing a new, lively spirit of Mardi Gras to our city during the months of January and February leading up to Fat Tuesday, Feb. 21. Created by Downtown Oceanside businesses and sponsored by MainStreet Oceanside, Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, Visit Oceanside and the Oceanside Cultural District, the first-ever O’side Mardi Gras celebration will kick off next Thursday with Mardi Gras Night at the Sunset Market. Oceanside businesses will create a Mardi Gras/Carnival experience within their decorated establishments with events, specials and live music, concluding with a Fat Tuesday celebration on Feb. 21. O’side Mardi Gras will also include a monthlong food drive for North County Food Bank. Local businesses can sign up here through Jan. 13. View the expanding O’side Mardi Gras event calendar below. Authors Night at the Sunset Market

Public Safety Night

Feb. 2, Sunset Market

Meet your Oceanside Public Safety first responders at Public Safety Night! From 5-8 p.m., the Oceanside Police Department, Oceanside Fire Department and Oceanside Lifeguards will be back at the Sunset Market with vehicle displays, handing out items such as coloring books and stickers and sharing public safety info and opportunities to become part of our city’s safety team. Mar-Tea Gras at Bliss Tea & Treats

Every Saturday through Fat Tuesday, Bliss Tea & Treats will offer a family-friendly High Tea with carnival savories (muffulettas), desserts and no-booze mocktails. From 2-4 p.m., there’ll be weekly kids activities, including coloring, and bead and mask making. This Saturday, don’t miss King Cake to celebrate Dr. King, a special High Tea experience. Omer Khan, Photojournalist and Afghan Refugee

Join Oceanside Public Library in welcoming photojournalist Omer Khan Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms. Afifa Zaman, a MiraCosta College counselor, educator, and active member of the Afghan-American community in Oceanside, will lead a discussion with Khan about his work as a photographer in his home country of Afghanistan and his experiences as a resettled Afghan in San Diego. Khan’s photographs of Afghanistan will be on display at the Oceanside Civic Center Library through Jan. 27. FIND OUT MORE
